Verizon launching wireless service in 36 NYC subway stations later this year


Verizon Wireless may lay claim to the nation's "largest 4G LTE network" above ground, but until today that network has been relatively useless in New York City's subway system. Thankfully Verizon is finally joining rival carriers AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile by signing a deal with Transit Wireless that will bring 3G and LTE voice / data to 36 subway stations later this year. The stations are already up and running for the other wireless providers, so it's just a matter of Verizon installing the necessary hardware. The company plans to do so over the next few weeks, and subway dwellers in midtown Manhattan and Chelsea can expect to see service go live before year's end.
