H7N9: outbreak of a mysterious new strain of bird flu

In late March 2013, the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported the first three human cases of a new strain of bird flu, designated H7N9. Several people have since died as a result of the virus, and dozens more have been infected, as scientists around the globe struggle to understand how it spreads and pinpoint the source.
