Chancellor Merkel warns US of repercussions if her phone is monitored


A spokesman for the German government tells Reuters they have evidence that the United States may have monitored the mobile phone of German chancellor Angela Merkel. The newswire reports that Chancellor Merkel spoke with President Obama earlier today, and asked for "immediate and comprehensive clarification."


The reports are consistent with earlier revelations that the NSA had hacked into Mexican president Felipe Calderon's email, establishing a pattern of US surveillance on allied governments.
