Fukushima's costly fix: Japan struggles to repair severely damaged nuclear plant


In March 2011, a massive earthquake struck off the northereastern coast of Japan, producing an immensely destructive tsunami and damaging the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex, causing a partial meltdown and a dangerous radiation leak. Since then, the country has made huge strides in rebuilding and recovering from a tragedy that claimed over 15,000 lives, but repairing the nuclear plant has proven to be far more difficult and costly than anyone would have hoped, including Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO), the company in charge of the plant.
