Tom Wheeler is the new chairman of the FCC


The US Senate has unanimously confirmed Tom Wheeler as the new chairman of the Federal Communications Commission today, reports The Hill. The former wireless industry lobbyist, nominated by President Obama back in May, will be replacing acting chairwoman Mignon Clyburn, who herself stepped in for former FCC chief Julius Genachowski when he left five months ago.

NSA, Project Ara, and an 'Entourage' movie: 90 Seconds on The Verge

On Day Two, things started to get a little weirder. The lone editor's vision grew hazy, his palms clammy. Perhaps this is something more than a typical bug. I mean, the cough is getting a little....worse. He does seem to be losing some weight. Maybe he just needs to get more fruit and vegetables in his system. Hopefully he'll feel better tomorrow.

Google+ allowing more users to claim custom URLs this week


Starting this week, many more Google+ users will be able to secure a custom URL that's easier to remember than the lengthy addresses assigned to accounts by default. Google initially began offering custom URLs to brands and celebrities more than a year ago, but now it's opening up the option for all users that meet three straightforward requirements: you must have a minimum of 10 followers, your Google+ account must be at least 30 days old, and it must contain a profile photo. So long as you meet that criteria (and we suspect must active Google+ members will) you'll be able to select a custom URL. HBO teases 'True Detective' anthology series in creepy new trailer


HBO is bringing a new detective drama onto the air next year, and the network has released a dark new trailer to introduce it to viewers. The show, True Detective, will star Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as detectives for its first season — but, like series such as American Horror Story, subsequent seasons will revolve around a new set of characters and a new mystery, rather than continuing the initial plot. The show kicks off as a murder from 1995 comes back under investigation in 2002, and will follow the pair of detectives across different timelines. It's set to begin airing next year on Sunday, January 12th, and if the series' eight episodes are all as eerie as the trailer suggests, it could turn into yet another hit for...
