Sony fixes broken PS3s with 4.46 firmware update

Following mass reports of last week’s PlayStation 3 firmware update leaving people’s consoles unusable, Sony is making good on its promise for a fix today with a new download and workaround. If the bug in firmware version 4.45 knocked out your machine’s XMB start screen interface, Sony is telling you to download the new 4.46 update, activate safe mode on your PS3, and load the new software onto it manually.
