Google now highlights the smartest articles for 'broad' search topics

For a vast majority of us, Google's search results provide exactly what we're looking for on a day-to-day basis. But the company wants to make it easier for anyone researching "broad" subjects to find in-depth articles that go deeper than the top hits it typically serves up. Beginning today in the US, Google will place these long-form articles and essays in a dedicated "in-depth" results box alongside your main search results. Google pulls content from The New Yorker and other outlets that specialize in the format, but is also promising to feature "some great articles from lesser-known publications and blogs." Just what qualifies as a "broad" subject? Google offers stem cell research, happiness, love, and even logos as some examples....
