Nintendo cuts future forecasts after Wii U sales fall far short of expectations

Nintendo has released its Q3 financial report, and the details contained within have forced the company to cut its sales expectations for the Wii U, 3DS, and DS. The Wii U was previously expected to shift 5.5 million units in the upcoming quarter, but Nintendo now predicts it will move 4 million — a drop of over 27 percent. That's still an improvement over what it's sold to date, however, as the company announced sales of 3.06 million for the new console. The launch has to go down as a disappointing one for the company, which had expected to sell 5.5 million Wii U systems this quarter.
