James Cameron says the 'Avatar' sequels will make you 'shit yourself with your mouth wide open'


Prolific documentary filmmaker James Cameron has only directed three feature-length films in the last 20 years: True Lies (1994), Titanic (1997), and Avatar (2009). Before that, he made The Abyss, Aliens, and the first two Terminator films. And every single one of those films was a huge box office success for its time — the last two films each crossed the $2 billion mark worldwide.


Here are domestic grosses (adjusted for inflation):



  • Titanic: $1.1 billion

  • Avatar: $789 million

  • Termintor 2: Judgment Day: $395 million

  • True Lies: $284 million

  • Aliens: $186 million

  • The Abyss: $111 million

  • The Terminator: $92 million
