Given that an internet meme has been the basis for a full blown motion picture, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to learn that a horror story originating on Reddit is being turned into a movie. The Daily Dot describes how Dathan Auerbach’s Footsteps and Balloons — two short horror stories originally posted to the r/nosleep subreddit — lead him to create Penpal, a Kickstarter-funded horror book. That novel eventually spawned a development deal with Oscar-winning producer Rich Middlemas, making it the second movie to be created based off of content found on Reddit. Even if Penpal doesn't make it to the silver screen, Auerbach plans to continue writing and gauging reception to his stories using Reddit.
